SCARAVAY

'Scaravay' (Gaelic spelling Sgarabhaigh) – is a small uninhabited island in the eastern end of the Sound of Harris.
It is approximately 40 acres in size and is home to many sea birds, sea otters and grey seals. The island along with its sister islands of Groay and Vatem (Grodhaigh and Bhatam), Lingay (Lingeigh) and Gilsay (Gilsaigh) are colloquially, not geographically, know as the Pabach Islands as they used to be used to provide peat for the islanders on Pabbay when their own supplies ran out back in the 19th Century.
The island is now interestingly the focus for a sustainability project intended to protect the environment of the island for all time, help local economic and social regeneration in the wider islands and provide people with a perpetual link to Scotland.
