The 'Royal Marines Police' is the military police of the British Royal Marines.
In peacetime it is responsible for providing garrison police facilities, law enforcement and crime prevention services. It has its own Special Investigation Branch (SIB) section for the investigation of crime.
The primary unit of the Royal Marines Police is the Royal Marines Police Troop, which is a part of the UK Landing Force Command Support Group, the signals and intelligence unit of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. It is based in Plymouth.
In military operations, the Royal Marines Police Troop provides military police support for all phases of operations and peacekeeping operations including co-ordinating vehicle movements out of the beachhead, marking the main supply routes and providing convoy escorts. It also conducts general police duties and provides close protection for the Brigade Commander. Royal Marines Police personnel are also attached to other units. They are eligible to undertake the Close Protection courses run by the Royal Military Police
Marines and officers of the Royal Marines Police are not constables and have no powers in relation to civil law enforcement.
In the near future it is intended to amalgamate the Royal Marines Police with the Royal Navy Regulating Branch, which will be renamed the Royal Navy Police^[1].
RM Police personnel are commando-qualified.
