RITSUMEIKAN ASIA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY

, or 'APU', is a private institution inaugurated April 2000 in Oita, Japan. APU's motto is: "Freedom, Peace, and Humanism, International Mutual Understanding and the Creation of the Future of the Asia Pacific." See also APU Opening Declaration
Situated in an expansive campus (about 42 ha) in suburban Beppu, Oita Prefecture, APU has an enrollment of 4,140 (2004). Approximately half the students and faculty members come from outside of Japan: over 70 countries and regions.
An interesting feature of APU is its bilingual educational system in a multilingual learning environment; it offers dual language education in English and Japanese.
In 2003, 2004 and 2005 APU was selected as a "Good Practice" university by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
