![]() | Aero-TV Talks SportAv EFIS Systems With Dynon Avionics Popular Sport Aviation EFIS Builder Continues To Push The Envelope Check out a seeming majority of the current crop of LSAs and your likely to see one of Dynon Avionic's uniquely compact experimental EFIS systems aboard. Check out a number of experimental aircraft and you're still likely to see a Dynon in the panels. Dynon Avionics entered the turbulent sport aviation marketplace with the announcement of their EFIS-D10 barely eight years ago. This compact offering packed a lot of EFIS capability into a standard 3-1/8" panel hole, making it an easy choice for pilots looking for lots of info without sacrificing an equivalent amount of panel space. The product began shipping in March 2003, and has since been joined by a follow-on product, a larger form-factor variant as well as a number of engine information system products. The current iteration of the EFIS-D10, called the EFIS-D10A boasts some intriguing safety features... such as an optional Angle-of Attack/Pitot design that alerts pilots of potential stall conditions, as well as an optional Li-ion backup battery which can maintain the instrument's functionality for as long as 2 hours in the event of some mode of power interruption. The unit's basic features revolve around a core 4 inch (diagonal) display that consolidates all basic flight instruments onto a single sunlight-readable, color LCD. Six buttons below the display provide control over instrument configuration, flight functions, and initial calibration chores. A Dynon designed Air Data, Attitude and Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) is contained inside the D-10A housing, which simplifies installation and trouble-shooting a great deal. Dynon also tells ANN that this system is unusually tolerant of "aggressive flight maneuvers," and will automatically correct itself when the system's standard parameters are exceeded. Dynon notes that the unit can not be damaged by aerobatics or unusual attitudes. Dynon's EFIS-D100 is a larger EFIS system, with the claim of being "the most affordable large screen Electronic Flight Information System on the market today." The 7" wide-screen display integrates multiple flight instruments, including airspeed, altitude, gyro-stabilized magnetic compass, turn rate, slip/skid ball, bank angle, and vertical speed. The D100 also includes a clock/timer, g-meter, voltmeter and density altitude/true airspeed calculator. FMI: www.dynonavionics.com Copyright 2008, Aero-News Network, Inc., ALL Rights Reserved |
