'Quispamsis' (2001 pop.: 13,757) is a
Canadian town located in
Kings County,
New Brunswick.
The population of Quispamsis qualifies for "city" status under the Municipalities Act of the Province of New Brunswick, however the town has made no move to change its municipal status.
Quispamsis is located 20 kilometres northeast of
Saint John, in the lower
Kennebecasis River valley.
Quispamsis amalgamated in 1998 with the nearby communities of
Gondola Point and
Wells to form the present community, covering an area of 60 km² and bordering the town of
Rothesay to the southwest with the
Hammond River along its northeastern boundary. Outdoor recreational opportunities are available at the Hammond River Nature Park, Ritchie Lake, and Meenan's Cove.
The
Gondola Point neighbourhood is home to the
Gondola Point Ferry crossing the Kennebecasis River, linking the Kingston Peninsula. This
cable ferry was originally installed by
William Pitt and is reportedly the first underwater cable ferry in the world.
