QUEBEC ROUTE 148

'Route 148' (formerly 'Route 8' before 1970) is a major east/west highway on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and Ottawa River in Quebec, Canada. Its eastern terminus is in Laval, and the western terminus is in L'Isle-aux-Allumettes in the Outaouais region, where it crosses the Ottawa River and ends in Pembroke, Ontario as Highway 148.
In Gatineau, it briefly overlaps Autoroute 50 from Boulevard Maloney until the junction with Autoroute 5. It overlaps Autoroute 5 until Boulevard Saint-Raymond near the Casino du Lac Leamy. However, when a new road will be completed linking the Hull sector to the Aylmer sector (Boulevard des Allumetières), it will overlap Autoroute 50 until Boulevard Saint-Laurent and will follow the new route towards Aylmer.
The stretch between Lachute and Buckingham, now part of Gatineau, is a busy two-lane highway as it provides the main link between the Outaouais and the northern region of Montréal, as the only freeway is Highway 417, on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River. This 90 km/h highway is considered a dangerous road especially in the segment between Masson-Angers and Montebello where numerous fatal accidents have occurred over the last several years. Neighbouring Autoroute 50 is under construction in different phases and will eventually parallel Route 148 between Gatineau and Lachute. This will join two existing segments of Autoroute 50 and reduce traffic flow on Route 148. From Lachute to Laval, Route 148 travels inland towards Laval through St. Eustache, just south of Mirabel Airport. Present termination of the Highway in Laval is at Route 125 (Boulevard Levesque Est) near the current Autoroute 25, although it was once at Autoroute 13 and also Route 117. Highway 8 then was posted with Highway 11A towards Boulevards Decarie and Metropolitan in Montreal.
