QUAKER STEAK AND LUBE

'Quaker Steak and Lube' is a small, growing casual dining restaurant chain based in Sharon, Pennsylvania. The original (and current flagship) restaurant was built in 1972 on the site of an abandoned gas station in downtown Sharon, and decorated with license plates and unused automobiles. Originally a "cook-your-own-steak" establishment (hence the word "steak" in the restaurant's name), Quaker Steak's flagship dish is now its chicken wings and the variety of uniquely-flavored sauces it uses to season them.

The name is a play on the motor oil company Quaker State.
There are currently 27 restaurants in the chain, mostly operating in eastern Ohio and western and central Pennsylvania. There are also locations in Knoxville, Tennessee, Douglasville, Georgia, Charlotte, North Carolina, Madison, Wisconsin, Pinellas Park, Florida, and Charleston, West Virginia. The chain is slowly expanding to different locations across the United States, with three recent openings in the spring of 2006 in Milford, Ohio, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and Austintown, Ohio.

Wing Sauce

One of Quaker Steak's gimmicks is its wing sauce flavors. The wing sauces are often depicted on the Scoville scale. The hottest flavor is the "Atomic Sauce" which is made from the habanero chile. The Atomic flavor is sold individually in a dropper bottle which is in turn sealed inside an oversized childproof prescription container to further the advertising gimmick. In fact, the Atomic flavor is so hot that the customer must sign a waiver form before ordering them, freeing Quaker Steak from any liablity and/or prosecution.
Flavor Scoville Units
Atomic 150,000
Suicide 30,000
Buckeye BBQ 5,000

Recently, Quaker Steak has unveiled a new flavor of wing sauce. Thai-R-Cracker (or Thai Chili) tastes like sweet and sour sauce from a Chinese restaurant with the spice of chili flakes in it.
