'Publicly Available Specification' (PAS)

A Publicly Available Specification (PAS) (sometimes inaccurately referred to as a Publicly Available Standard) is a formal standards document produced by the British Standards Institution (BSI) under sponsorship from a commissioning body. A PAS is not a full British Standard in itself, but is developed using a similar process and can lead on to full status as a British Standard.
Developing a PAS is a way to create a credible private or public standard covering products or processes. Unlike a full British Standard, a PAS does not require a full consensus among a panel of experts, and hence can be published more quickly. The result is a best practice guidance document, which may be reviewed in under two years from publication.
