Professor Dr Rama Kant
Dr Rama Kant is the Head of the Department of General Surgery, King George’s Medical University (see http://www.kgmcindia.edu) and has been the former Chief Medical Superintendent, Gandhi Memorial and Associated Hospitals. He has been accredited with innovative surgical procedure for the surgical management of chronic empyema thoracis, which has been published internationally as Kant's Modified Open Drainage.
He was awarded International Award of World Health Organization (for the year 2005) (see www.who.int)

He has authored country’s first comprehensive book on tobacco control in Hindi (Rakh Ke Dher Par) and Urdu (1995). This book received National Award by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (1997) for the role it played in educating the society, and was also awarded by UP Hindi Sansthan (1997), for its literary content. He chaired the Editorial team of Tobacco Kills ‘Monitor’ series, bringing out more than 83 issues by engaging youth.
He established India's first formal Tobacco Cessation Clinic at KGMU. He is also accredited with authoring hindi books of medical subjects, like tuberculosis and head injury.
Presently he chairs India's Civil Society Task force on tobacco control. He is also the former Jt Secretary of Association of Surgeons of India, All India Endocrine Surgeons' Association.
