PLUTOED

'"Plutoed"' is a neologism chosen as the 2006 Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society. The Society defined "to pluto" as "to demote or devalue someone or something"; "plutoed" is the past tense of "to pluto".
The Society's choice of "plutoed" stemmed from the substantial emotional impact the Society determined the public to have had in response to the planet Pluto's demotion from planet status by astronomers of the International Astronomical Society General Assembly.^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}
Society president Cleveland Evans stated the reason for the organization's selection of "plutoed". "Our members believe the great emotional reaction of the public to the demotion of Pluto shows the importance of Pluto as a name. We may no longer believe in the Roman god Pluto, but we still have a sense of connection with the former planet", he said.^[5]
The domain plutoed.com was registered August 24 2006, for a blog devoted to things "plutoed".^[6]
