PHRAORTES

'Phraortes' or 'Fravartish' ([1] ''Fravartiš''[2]; c. 665 - 633 BC), son of Deioces, was the second king of the Media and the founder of Median government.
Like his father Deioces, Fravartish started wars against Assyria, but was defeated and killed by Ashurbanipal, the king of Assyria.
Phraortes was followed by his son Cyaxares. He led his force to Lydia but was stopped in front of the river Halys due a sudden eclipse. Then, he followed in the footsteps of his father and marched on his way to Assyria, but this time victory was on the side of the Medians.
