OUTER CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD
Begun during the 1949-1950 theater season, the 'Outer Critics Circle Awards' are presented annually for theatrical achievements both on and Off-Broadway. The awards are decided upon by theater critics who review for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media outlets outside of New York City.
The nominees are announced each April. The presentation of awards is made in late May at Sardi's Restaurant in Manhattan, New York City and precedes the Tony Awards by about two weeks.
The awards for 2006-07 were presented on May 24, 2007, and included Special Achievement Awards to ''Deuce'' co-stars Angela Lansbury and Marian Seldes "in recognition of their outstanding and distinguished careers in the theatre." Simon Saltzman, a long-time member of the OCC executive committee and theatre reviewer, serves as president. Marjorie Gunner, the organization's president for 25 years, continues as president emerita. The Executive/Nominating committee for the 2006-07 season consists of Mario Fratti (Vice-President), Patrick Hoffman (Corresponding Secretary), Louis A. Rachow (Treasurer), Glenn Loney (Historian & Member-at-Large), Rosalind Friedman (Recording Secretary) and Aubrey Reuben and Thomas Gentile (Members-at-Large), in addition to Saltzman and Gunner.
