'''Ondine''' or '''The Naiad and the Fisherman''' is a ballet in Three acts, Five scenes. It originally premiered at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, on 22 June, 1843 as ''Ondine, au la Naiad'' with choreography by Jules Perrot and music by Cesare Pugni, with the Ballerina Fanny Cerrito as ''Ondine''. It is the story of a water nymph, Ondine, who falls in love with a human. Pugni deicated his score to the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Augusta, a longtime balletomane and patron of the arts in London.
The original version of ''Ondine'' was revived by the Balletmaster Pierre Lacotte for the Kirov/Mariinsky Ballet, premiering on March 16, 2006 at the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg, Russia. Cesare Pugni's score was reconstructed for the production.
