'Oasis' is a trademarked name for a spongy phenolic foam used for flower arranging. It soaks up water like a sponge and acts both as a preservative to prolong the life of the flowers and a support to hold them in place. It is usually green but also comes in many other colours such as purple, red, yellow, and brown. However, the coloured forms of oasis do take longer to soak up the water than the green form.
Oasis can be bought in arts and craft stores—especially ones that have large faux flower collections for doing your own faux flower arranging; sometimes cheap knock-offs of it can be bought in dollar stores.
