'North Atlanta' is a census-designated place and an unincorporated census area in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2000 census, the area had a total population of 38,579. North Atlanta is one of very few former incorporated places that exists in the United States, disincorporated during the 1960s.
North Atlanta's Census area contains separate communities of Brookhaven, North Atlanta, and Skyland.
North Atlanta is located at (33.862653, -84.333452).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 20.0 km² (7.7 mi²). 19.8 km² (7.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.78%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 38,579 people, 15,886 households, and 7,402 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,947.1/km² (5,040.6/mi²). There were 16,636 housing units at an average density of 839.6/km² (2,173.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 61.52% White, 17.56% African American, 0.41% Native American, 4.88% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 12.64% from other races, and 2.94% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 27.41% of the population.
There were 15,886 households out of which 18.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.3% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.4% were non-families. 35.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.6% under the age of 18, 15.2% from 18 to 24, 47.2% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 121.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 124.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $52,333, and the median income for a family was $52,679. Males had a median income of $35,742 versus $37,043 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $32,087. About 7.6% of families and 11.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.1% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
