KHWAJA SALIMULLAH

Khwaja Salimullah was Nawab of Dhaka and a pioneer muslim leader of Bengal. Son of Nawab Khwaja Ahsanullah, he joined the British Indian Civil Service as a Deputy Magistrate in 1892 and served till 1895. He became the sitting Nawab of Dhaka in 1901 after the death of his father.He was the chairman of the reception committee of All-India Mohammedan Educational Conference which was held in Dhaka in December,1906. He proposed the creation of the All India Muslim League(AIML) in this conference.He was a member of East Bengal and Assam Legislative Council from 1906 to 1907. He was also a member of Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1913 to 1915.
He was a staunch supporter of Partition of Bengal of 1905.He was one of the primary founders of Dhaka University. Salimullah Muslim Hall of Dhaka University and Salimullah Medical College of Dhaka, both are named after him.
