'Mosin-Nagant 1891/30' () was a core Soviet sniper rifle, used primarily on the
Eastern Front of World War II. Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 was an improved version of
Imperial Russian Mosin-Nagant 1891. Two main upgrades of prototype have been done in 1910 and 1930. Among the distinctive features of the model in comparison with an ordinary 7.62mm rifle of 1891/1930 were a corbelled
telescopic sight and a new form of the
breech handle. Following the decree of
April 28,
1930 the rifle was added to the
Red Army armoury. On
January 17,
1944 the production of Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 was ceased.
Disadvantages
Significant rifle's disadvantages were its weight and length. There were also a low
rate of fire (10-12 aimed shots per minute) and unadjustable
trigger mechanism. Since 1942 the
gun stocks became birchen, unlike previous walnut of superior quality.
