BC) was the founder of the huge
Asian Hun Empire, in 209 BC. According the Chinese record,the name is 'Modu' not 'Modun'.'冒顿'(音:莫独,拼音:mòdú,注音:ㄇㄛˋ ㄉㄨㄛˊ). The beginning of his rule also accepted as formation of first systematic nomad army. The exact years of his rule were 209 BCE to 174 BCE.
He was a
military leader under his father
Teoman and
Shanyu and
emperor of
Khunnu Empire located in modern day
Mongolia. He made much conquests in
Central Asia, before
Genghis Khan and the
Mongol conquests. He ruled the
Asian Hun Empire.

His Hunnic legend to the throne was recorded by Chinese scholars.

He was the eldest son of
Teoman, but Teoman had chosen an heir from another wife. For this, Teoman sent MaoTun with few man to a desperate trap campaign to a distant land to be defeated. But later he recognized the trap, and after a fierce battle he had managed to win with a few men, got a horse and could return. For his bravery his father gave him a
Tumen of soldiers. He controlled strictly his 10000 men, and trained them hard every day for war. On a hunt trip, he got revenge on his father, and arrowed him with a bow. After this he gained the ascendancy of all tribes his father had controlled.
He trained them all for fight, and to take his commands all way.
Anyone who said against his command, got killed.
For example he commanded the soldiers to kill his favorite horse or favorite wife. Who hesitated to take his command, or questioned back, got killed immediately.
He became feared and respected by all his men, and none was dare to challenge his authority.
After made his army ready for war he started to conquer.
Under his rule, he made 28 major war campaigns, to conquer 28 countries and people and became greatly feared among people and countries across Asia, even in the great Chinese Empire. He was undefeated.
Name
Baatur means brave, courageous, in old Hunnic language and in
Turkic languages (Bator in modern day Hungarian).
Baghadur(
Baghatur), hadur means warlord in Hungarian. And more important Hungarian word is the bátor, what means brave in their language (him archaic pronunciation is the Batur). See also
