Founded in 1965, the ''Mississauga News'' is characterized by its coverage of local issues, including those relating to civic politics, arts and entertainment, sports, crime, and recreation. Editorially, the paper asserts a centrist, if not right-of-centre political stance. Over the years, the ''News'' has served to venerate the leadership of longtime Mississauga mayor and fiscal conservative Hazel McCallion.
