'Mikałaj Sudziłoŭski' (
Belarusian: ''Мікалай Судзілоўскі'', also known as 'Nicholas Russel',

April 30,
1930 was a
Belarusian revolutionary and scientist.
Sudilovskij was born in
Mahiliou to a
noble family. He studied at
St.Petersburg and
Kiev universities where he began to get involved in political activity. In 1873-1874, Sudziloŭski was one of the organisers of the ''Kiev commune'', a left-wing student organisation. He went into exile in 1875.
In 1876 under the pseudonym ''Nicholas Russel'', Sudziloŭski took part in the Bulgarian
April Uprising against the
Ottoman Empire and was one of the organisers of the socialist movement in
Romania. He finished university at Bucharest in 1877.
In 1887, Sudziloŭski moved to
San Francisco and later
Hawaii, becoming an American citizen. There he became a founder of the
Hawaii Homerule Party in 1892, which opposed Hawaii's joining the
USA. In 1900 under the name ''Kauka Lukini'', Sudziloŭski was elected Hawaii Senate President.
During the
Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 Sudziloŭski actively conducted socialist propaganda among Russian prisoners of war. Following the demands of Russia's foreign minister, the US government revoked his citizenship. Sudziloŭski spent the last years of his life in the
Philippines and
China.
He was author of several works on
medicine and
sociology and was member of the American Genetics Society.
