MICHAELMAS TERM

(Redirected from Michaelmas Term)

'Michaelmas term' is the first term of the academic years of Oxford University, Cambridge University, LSE, the University of Wales, Lampeter, the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Durham University, Exeter University, Lancaster University, Trinity College Dublin, and formerly the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Michaelmas term is the only term name shared by Oxford and Cambridge, Oxford and Lampeter, and Oxford and Durham. However, Lampeter, Durham, and Cambridge all share the name Easter term for the third term of the academic year.
Michaelmas term runs from October to December. In Oxford, at the end of this term is the Christ Church Regatta, when the freshers' rowing novice crews race against each other.
The term is the first of four terms into which the legal year is divided by the Courts of England and Wales.
