The Mexico Tourism Board in Canada also worked as an important supporting sponsor of the Grange Prize and relation between Mexico and Canada.

Each year, candidates from Canada and another country are selected as finalists for the prize of $50,000 and given recognition in their work in contemporary photography.  This year, Mexico was chosen as the partner country and two photographers, Marco Antonio Cruz and Federico Gama, were selected as finalists, along with Lynne Cohen and Jin-me Yoon from Canada.

The winner of the 2009 Grange Prize was Marco Antonio Cruz, a prominent photojournalist in Mexico.  Cruz’s work has shaped a visual memory that reveals the complexities of the time in Mexico through a point of view that is ethically and politically engaged yet with aesthetic clarity.

The Grange Prize exhibit, including winner Marco Antonio Cruz’s photographs, as well as other Grange Prize finalists (Lynne Cohen, Federico Gama, and Jin-me Yoon) will be on display at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Canada until June 26th, 2009; and may still be on display at the Centro de la Imagen in the National Center for the Arts in Mexico City.
