MEAUX


'Meaux' is a commune of Seine-et-Marne, in the metropolitan area of Paris, France. This ''Francilienne'' town is located 41.1 km. (25.5 miles) east-northeast from the center of Paris (as the crow flies). Meaux is a ''sous-préfecture'' of the Seine-et-Marne ''département'', being the seat of the Arrondissement of Meaux. Although it is the most populous commune in the Seine-et-Marne, it is not the ''préfecture'' (capital), which resides in the commune of Melun.

Meaux, together with six smaller neighboring communes, form an urban area of 67,956 inhabitants (1999 census). This urban area is a satellite city of Paris.
