(Redirected from Magallanes Region)
'Magallanes y Antártica Chilena Region' is the southernmost, largest and second least populated
region of
Chile. In Chile's
Roman numeral system of designation of regions, it is 'Region XII'.
This region has many globally known places and geographical features like
Torres del Paine,
Cape Horn,
Tierra del Fuego island, and the
Strait of Magellan. It also includes the
Antarctic territory claimed by Chile.
The low population and vastness makes this region a good place for many native animal and plant species. It is relatively easy to find
penguins,
ñandus,
guanacos,
condors, and other animals in their natural environment.
The main economic activities are bovine farming, oil extraction and tourism. This region is also home to a spectacular
adventure race in the
Patagonia Expedition Race.
