This is a 'list of North American deserts'. There are five major
desert biomes in
North America, all located in the
southwestern United States (and
western United States), or in many sections of
Mexico. Among their notable features are the
Madrean sky islands of the southeastern
Sonoran desert; and the northern mountain ranges of Mexico, the
Sierra Madre Occidentals. Canada is home to a few small "deserts" such as the one at
Osoyoos. Another "
desert" near
Carcross, Yukon is commonly called a desert, but is not a true desert, but an area of northern sand dunes.
