'Lichfield' is a local government district in Staffordshire, England. Its council is based in the City of Lichfield.
The dignity and privileges of the City of Lichfield are vested in its town council (a civil parish) (which is therefore known as ''Lichfield City Council'', and covers only 14 km²), and not the District Council which covers nearly 25 times this area.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the municipal borough of Lichfield with most of the Lichfield Rural District.
The town of Burntwood also makes up a major part of the Lichfield district.
