LIBRA (ASTROLOGY)
'Libra' is an astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Libra, in the Southern Hemisphere near Scorpius and Virgo. Under the tropical zodiac, Libra is occupied by the Sun from September 23 to October 23, and under the sidereal zodiac, it ends on November 15. Libra, (The Scales of Balance), is the only symbol of the zodiac that is inanimate (it is not represented by an animal or person). The opposite sign to Libra is Aries.
The corresponding month in the Babylonian calendar is ''Tišritum'', dedicated to Shamash (the Sun).

Mythology
In mythology Libra is often associated with the Greek Goddess of Justice, Themis,[1] the Greek mythological figure of Atalanta (meaning balanced), and Astraea (daughter of Themis), who ascended to heaven and became the constellation of Virgo, and carried the scales of justice, the nearby constellation of Libra.
Libra is also associated with the Greco-Roman goddess Aphrodite/Venus and sometimes also the goddesses Eris/Discordia & Hermione/Concordia, Hera/Juno, Ishtar, Freyja, and Frigg and the god Xolotl.
In astrology Libra is ruled by the planet Venus. The Indian equivalent of Libra is 'Tula', the Chinese equivalent is the Dog.
Characteristics
Individuals born under this sign are thought by practitioners of astrology to have a pleasant, clever, articulate, charming, charismatic, beautiful, outgoing, fair, artistic, social, refined, diplomatic, even-tempered and self-sufficient character. The Libra person is said to be co-operative, sees both sides, open-minded, just, urbane, partnership oriented, avoids conflict, balanced, graceful, debative, idealistic, and equalitarian. They can sometimes also rationalize, be easily deterred, indecisive and lazy, and are also thought to be flirtatious, extravagant, frivolous, impatient, envious, aloof, and quarrelsome.
Relationships
Astrology claims that in love the Libra person has achieved something of their ideal, and though they may recognise even the smallest failing in their loved one they are afraid to argue over it for fear of 'disturbing the balance'. They are usually romantic and sentimental, but there is also the shallow flirtatious type. Frequently relationships are a 'marriage of minds' rather than 'an earthy mating of the sexes'.
Occupations
Suitable occupations are said to be those where human relationships and a harmonious environment are important; such as artist, poet, diplomat, fashion and hairdressing, social worker, cosmos/space industry.
Body and health
Physically, individuals born under the sign of Libra supposedly tend to have a graceful figure; charming appearance; a roundish head; small and refined features; a high forehead; and a 'trademark' dimple.
In medical astrology and terms of anatomy, Libra is popularly said to rule the excretory functions via the kidneys, skin, lumbar region, buttocks, adrenals and vasomotor system, and lumbar vertebrae.[2]
