42. How to Up Your Chances for Profit When Setting Stops
http://www.informedtrades.com/ A lesson on how to incorporate technical analysis in identifying support and resistance and incorporating this into setting your stop loss when trading the stock, futures, and forex markets. In our last lesson we learned about the Average True Range (ATR) and how traders use this to get an idea of the volatility in the market so they can incorporate this into their stop levels. In today's lesson we are going to add an additional factor that most traders consider important when setting stops, support and resistance. As we have learned in previous lessons many traders will use technical analysis to determine where support and resistance is in the market, and look for trading opportunities based on what that chart analysis tells them. In addition to using technical analysis to find support and resistance levels in which trades can be entered, many successful traders also use this method of analysis to determine where their stops should be placed. One of the most popular methods which we have touched on in previous lessons where many traders use support and resistance in their trading is when trading ranges in the market. Many traders favor ranges, as they provide traders with the ability to enter trades with tight stop losses and much larger potential returns. The reasoning here is that traders can enter a trade just below resistance or just above support in the range, place their stop just outside that level and then their profit target at the other end of the range. Generally the distance between the stop level is much shorter than the distance between the other end of the range, providing traders with a great opportunity for a relatively low risk and potentially high reward trade. Chart Example This is also another example of using tech levels (the bottom and top of the range) to place trades and set stops. Often times however as many traders are employing this type of strategy, the market will jump up or down above/below the resistance/support level stopping traders out of trades before quickly reversing and moving in the favor of the traders original entry price. Because of this traders are faced with the delema of how far to place there stop outside of the range that they are trading, so that they can be in a position where they are protected but are less likely to be stopped out on market spikes. One way that this can be done is by incorporating the ATR. Although the example above shows 1 ATR as the level at which the stop is placed outside of the range. That number could be a percentage such as 50% of the ATR or any other multiple of the ATR such as 2 ATR's outside the range, depending on the traders timeframe, profit target, and strategy. To finish off this example we now have several components which make up a basic strategies for placing stops based on technical levels and can now analyze the feasibility of one of the trades here to see if it fits all of our criteria.

SUPERMARKET SECRETS dispatch #1 (1 of 5)
How and what we eat has radically changed over the past few decades with the all-consuming rise of the supermarket. But what price are we paying for the homogenised, cheap and convenient food that supermarkets specialise in? In a two-part programme, journalist Jane Moore investigates how supermarkets have affected the food on our plates and reveals the tell-tale signs that the food we buy may not have been grown in the way we think. Using a combination of undercover filming and scientific analysis, Supermarket Secrets investigates whether the food on supermarket shelves is really as good as it looks, whether prices are as good as they seem and what happens behind the scenes in the production of supermarket food. This year Britain's shoppers are expected to spend around £70billion on food. 56% of this total expenditure will take place in supermarkets. These films ask how supermarkets manage to push prices down and profits up. Are farmers and growers being pressured to produce food in a manner that leads to it being less nutritious than in the past? And what of the conditions that livestock is reared in today? The first of the two programme features secret filming which uncovers the horrific conditions inside a chicken broiler house preparing chickens for a company which supplies all the major supermarkets. One study carried out by a professor from Cambridge University revealed that 82% of chickens bought in supermarkets had hockburns -- a tell-tale sign of poor animal welfare caused by sitting in litter. Jane Moore shows how to examine chickens for hockburns. The programme also examines why chickens nowadays have more fat and less protein and why it is vitally important to read the ingredients lists on healthy option meals. Also, top chef Raymond Blanc puts some supermarket 'ready meals' to the taste test. Programme two meets the organic potato farmer who feeds much of his crop to his cows because, he says, the supermarkets deem his produce to be insufficiently cosmetically pleasing. The film also hears from a toxicologist about the levels of pesticide residues in supermarket fresh produce; reveals how dairy cattle are now factory farmed and why packaged fruit and vegetables from your local supermarket may be more expensive that you think -- and not as good for you. "It's cool to be white"
Whites will be an ethnic minority in Britain by the end of the century. Analysis of official figures indicate that, at current fertility rates and levels of immigration, there will be more non-whites than whites by 2100. It would be the first time in history that a major indigenous population has voluntarily become a minority, rather than through war, famine or disease. Whites will be a minority in London by 2010. In the early 1950s there were only a few tens of thousands of non-whites in the UK. By 1991 that had risen to 3 million - 6 per cent of the population. The population of ethnic minorities has been growing at between 2 and 4 per cent a year. Net immigration has been running at record levels, with 185,000 newcomers last year. Government forecasts suggest that immigration on its own will be responsible for half the growth of the British population over the next couple of decades. New immigrants, who are on average younger than the population at large, also tend to have higher fertility rates. In contrast, the population of white British citizens is static. Their fertility rate is very low - at under 2 children per woman - and there is overall emigration of British citizens. The analysis of the figures showed that if the population of ethnic minorities grows at 4 per cent a year, whites will become a minority before 2100. The demographer who made the calculation wished to remain anonymous for fear of accusations of racism.

SignAlyze - Signature Analysis Tool
Signalyze is an optional add-on to Softpro's Software development kit SignWare. (SignWare is also basis of the popular e-signing solution SignDoc) This video is an educational "hands-on" eduction on the sophisticated toolbox which visualizes the various aspects of dynamic (biometric) signature characteristics. It explains some of the security features provided in SignWare and SignDoc. Not targeting the newbie but rather the expert working for fraud departments, in forensic analysis and everyone interested into the "science of signing". Softpro has defined a set of quality criteria for capturing signatures with digitizing instruments. A proper comparison of static signature characteristics and dynamic signature signals requires a digitizing instrument that is taking a sufficient amount of time signals. It also has to be able to differentiate between various pressure levels and to provide an appropriate resolution rate. These requirements are also reflected in the standard for the interchange of biometric signature data (ISO/IEC FDIS 19794-7). At the time when this paper was compiled there was also a discussion about implementing a standard for a "signature feature set". The author hopes that this will not be pursued as it would limit the options for further enhancements to the verification algorithms and in parallel specify certain technological approaches that only reflect an "as is"-scenario. The Japanese hardware manufacturer Wacom and the German software specialist Softpro teamed up to provide the market with a best-of-breed solution. Its aim is to fully satisfy forensic experts when asked to analyze the signals captured. This specific Signature LCD tablet was first demonstrated at CeBIT 2007. The tablet has the capability to capture all distinct behavioural characteristics of an individual's signature - including shape, speed, stroke, pen pressure and timing information. When assessing the products that are on the market today the development partners received the feedback from forensic experts that today's capturing devices may offer "some sort of interpretation option" but they typically do not fulfil all of the aspects listed below: - Forensic experts require precise information on the relation of force applied and pressure levels. Manufactures must make available this sort of "pressure curve chart" to vendors of signature verification software and to the forensic experts. - A reliable capturing device has to record the same pressure levels in all segments of the capturing area with the same precision when the same force is being applied. - When capturing signatures on different tablets of the same type from the same manufacturer signal data must not exceed a certain tolerance level, otherwise an analysis or verification would have to be adjusted to each device. - The ergonomics of the writing tablet must reflect the typical signing situation and ideally provide for a "paper-like" surface (which imitates the writing feeling on paper as close as possible). - The capturing technology must exclude the capturing of unwanted "overspill" information such as signals from a thumb ball that touched the capturing surface while signing. - In addition, for non-repudiation, security and auditing purposes, the capturing device must provide a unique serial number, a device id number and secured communication between device (firmware) and device driver (operating system).
