 | Lady Catherine's visit... scene from "Pride & Prejudice" Another scene clipped together from various adaptations of "Pride & Prejudice"...this is when Lady Catherine visits Elizabeth Bennet to ask her if she is engaged to Mr. Darcy. The most recent film is the 2005 Focus Features version starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Dame Judi Dench as Lady Catherine de Bourg. The 1995 BBC/A&E Production stars Jennifer Ehle, with Barbara Leigh-Hunt as Lady Catherine. And the comic relief comes from Greer Garson's Miss Bennet in the 1940 MGM version which also stars Edna May Oliver. (It should be noted that I left out some of the funniest, slapstick bits in this scene so you should really see the whole thing when you get the chance.) Completely made up story - not my characters, not my movie (its all Jane Austens) Explination: Everybody wants Elizabeth! Mr Wickham, Mr Collins but she doesnt want them! Until she starts having these feelings for the one man that isn't interested - Mr Darcy, and Lady Catherine De Bourgh notices!! She tells Elizabeth that Mr Darcy is engaged to her daughter and the BACK OFF. Elizabeth is really sad, but her mother says - screw lady catherine and her daughter, go after him - he's rich! Darcy notices her attentions, and on a warning from Lady Catherine - is rude to Elizabeth, and argues with her. But he finds himself growing more and more attached to her instead of distancing himself as he had hoped - and finally askes her to dance. Elizabeth is delighted, but wonders why he askes as she remembers their arguements. She desides to take a holiday to visit Charlotte who had married Mr Collins and notices Mr Darcy is there too, but stays away from him because of the arguments they had had. She sees him at a ball there, and laughs after he notices her and turns away - thinking he was soo childish all the way through. But then he apologises and all is well - they get engaged and the Bennet family is all very excited as they are expecting him for dinner - but instead Mr Collins bursts in and says that Lady Catherine demands to see Elizabeth. Mr Darcy is also at Lady Catherines and Elizabeth is worried but Lady Catherine is fine about it and allows Elizabeth to stay overnight at her manor. She thinks about all the things that have happened between her and Darcy and wonders if theres something he isnt telling her... so she goes to see him but runs in on Mr Darcy with Lady Catherines daughter - and runs away!
