★ 1878 - Founded after Uwa District broke off.

January 1, 2005 - The town of Kihoku was formed from merger of Hiromi and Hiyoshi.

August 1, 2005 - Mima, Tsushima, and Yoshida merged with the old city of Uwajima to form the new city of Uwajima.
