April 2008, 19.30 Uhr In der Künstlervereinigung MAERZ Bekannt wurde Donny McCaslin im Quintett von Gary Burton, seinem ehemaligen Professor am Berklee College of Music in Boston. In New York arbeitete McCaslin mit Eddie Gomez und in der Gruppe „Steps Ahead", dann vor allem im Maria Schneider Orchestra, mit dem er 2004 auch das fabelhafte Album „Concert In The Garden" einspielte, samt Grammy-Nominierung für das „Best of Jazz Instrumental Solo". Seit Jahren gehört McCaslin nun zum Quintett des Trompeters Dave Douglas. Er trat allerdings auch auf mit The Mingus Band, Danilo Perez, Tom Harrell, Brian Blade, John Pattitucci, Pat Metheny. Und er führt auch eigene Bands an. Der in Moskau geborene Boris Kozlov ist in den USA bekanntgeworden als Genosse von Bobby Watson, Bennie Goldson, Ravi Coltrane, John Scofield, Roswell Rudd, Michael Brecker, Toshiko Akioshi. Seit zehn Jahren macht er mit in The Mingus Band. Und der in New York geborene Adam Cruz gehörte zu Willie Colon's Salsa Orchestra, zu Chick Corea's Origin Sextet, zur Mingus Dynasty Big Band, zur David Sanchez Band. Er trat auch auf mit McCoy Tyner, Charlie Hunter, Eddie Palmieri, Paquito D'Rivera. Donny McCaslin & Boris Kozlov & Adam Cruz. Und dieses neue Trio kommt vor Auftritten in Amsterdam, Paris und Münster in den MAERZ. |
