JOE FAFARD
'Joe Fafard' (born September 2, 1942) is a Canadian sculptor.
Born in Sainte-Marthe, Saskatchewan, he received a B.S.A from the University of Manitoba in 1966 and a M.F.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1968. From 1968 to 1974, he taught sculpture at the University of Saskatchewan. One of Canada's foremost artists, Joe Fafard has been creating art, especially sculpture, for over four decades. In the 1980's he opened a foundry, Julienne Atelier, in Pense, Saskatchewan. His art is heavily influenced by his Saskatchewan surroundings, and includes life-size bronzes of cows, horses and pigs. Humour, mischief and intelligence breathe life and originality into Fafard's art, which is found in private collections worldwide.
In 1981, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 2002, he was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
