INGEN

'InGen' ('International Genetic Technologies') is a fictional genetic engineering company appearing in the ''Jurassic Park'' series of novels and films. The company is based in Palo Alto, California, and as one location in Europe. However, most of InGen's research took place on both the islands of Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar.
The company also pioneered a technique to use DNA extracted from ancient mosquitoes trapped in solid amber to produce cloned, living dinosaurs.

When InGen made Jurassic Park the company needed a place to make and mature the dinosaurs. So under Hammond's request the company took over Isla Sorna,an island 87 miles away from Isla Nublar. On this island they made a heavily secure laboratory where all the original work was performed and after the dinosaurs were matured they were transported to Isla Nublar where they were to be kept till their death. After Hurricane Clarissa hit the two islands, all personnel were evacuated from the island and the facility was later abandoned. When the personnel left the island the dinosaurs had escaped the laboratories roaming on the island where they have made a very prehistoric habitat. Since the island was evacuated, the island was nearly forgotten and nobody went back to see what happened. In 1997 A group of British sailors on a private Yacht cruise had stumbled across this island thinking they were on a Chain of islands connected to Costa Rica rather than one 120 miles away from the mainland that was owned by a company. A girl who wandered off was later attacked by some reptiles re-awaking InGen about the island. In the end of the island was turned into a dinosaur preserve. Peter Ludlow sent a team to Isla Sorna on his request to capture and transpot the dinosaurs back to San Diego where Ludlow had finished building a mainland Jurassic Park. The team failed and were virtually destroyed by velociraptors and t-rex while trying to evacuate the island, there were only a few survivors and left many pieces of expensive equipment behind. The failure of Ludlow's team left Ingen embarrassed and with countless law suits on their hands as many team members were killed. Ludlow died in the events after Isla Sorna which involved San Diago and followed on from the failure of the team. Ingen never tried to use the islands again and kept them under high security.
'Status: Abandoned'

When InGen had found out that the dinosaurs were flourishing on Isla Sorna, Peter Ludlow took advantage of this to help InGen get back to the top so under his request InGen had decided to resume a previous Jurassic park Project that was canceled by Hammond for a theme park in San Diego where the general public could see these magnificent creatures up close. After The San Diego incident the Project was once again abandoned and the area was sold to another company in order to help pay off InGen's massive lawsuits and debts.
'Status: In use'

This marina was built to transport large shipments for InGen and was even a cargo ship dock for the United States customs and Immigration Services. Much of the place was destroyed in the San Diego crisis but was successfully rebuilt prior to the accident.
'Status: In use'

This facility was built after the two incidents and was to make sure nobody would leave and enter Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna where the dinosaurs currently live.

Story

InGen was founded by billionaire John Hammond in 1983, with mostly Japanese contributions. In 1985 Hammond started to design and construct "Jurassic Park", a zoo-like tourist attraction on the island of Isla Nublar off the coast of Costa Rica. "Jurassic Park" would be the first zoo in the history of the world to have living, breathing dinosaurs as the attractions. In addition, Hammond created a research facility on "Site B" (featured in '' and ''Jurassic Park III''). Although Hammond was the leading man behind InGen, the real "brains" of the project was a man named Norman Atherton, who had died before Hammond started the company due to terminal cancer. He was replaced by his best student, Henry Wu.
According to the novel ''The Lost World'', InGen broke down after the incident on Isla Nublar in 1989 (1993 in the film). In '', Hammond retired, and that his nephew Peter Ludlow took over as CEO. Ludlow built a new Jurassic Park in San Diego, California and went to Isla Sorna to capture the dinosaurs and populate the park. Ludlow, however, was killed by an infant T-Rex that he captured on the island. Hammond is also killed in the novel version of ''Jurassic Park'', but it is not stated who currently owned InGen in the novels.

The building is actually in downtown San Diego where all orders are carried out on. This is also the headquarter of InGen Securities and Bioengineering. There are no known laboratories in this place but rather a business area and security center.

'Status: Dismantled'

This facility which is 120 miles from Costa Rica was planned to be a theme park proposed by John Hammond. But instead of being like most theme parks it was more like a Safari tour Zoo. However it does have most items like a track, visitors center, and tour program. Even though the company knew there were some flaws the project was still continued. But after the crisis on this island the facility was abandoned and the island was quarantined but is still heavily secured in order to make sure there are no remaining dinosaurs.

Trivia==

★ In the novel, Biosyn was responsible for paying Dennis Nedry to steal the dinosaur embryos; however, in the film the name Biosyn is never explicitly mentioned as the company Lewis Dodgson works for.

★ The name "InGen" much resembles the Norwegian and Swedish word "ingen" which means "nobody" (as in nobody there).
