Now that humans arrived: North and South America lost three quarters of their big animals. Europe and Asia lost between a third and half of their big creatures. Australia lost 95 percent of large animals. In 1979 it was suggested that human activities were causing 2 extinctions a week. In the 1990s that number was raised to some six hundred per week.
