'Hexene' is a higher
olefin, or
alkene with a formula
C6H12. The "Hex" is derived from the fact that there are 6 Carbons in the molecule, while the "ene" suffix denotes that Carbons are connected via double bonds. There are several
isomers of hexene, depending on the position of the
double bond and the branching of the carbon chain. One of the most common industrially useful isomers is
1-hexene, an
alpha-olefin.
