HENRY DE FERRERS
'Henry de Ferrers' (alternatively spelled 'de Ferrer'; aka 'Henri de Ferrières') was a Norman soldier who took part in the conquest of England and the Battle of Hastings of 1066 and, in consequence, was rewarded with much land in the subdued nation.

His elder brother William fell in the battle. William and Henri were both the sons of Walchelin de Ferriers, Seigneur of St Hilaire de Ferrierers, near Bernay in Normandy.
Henry became a major land holder and was granted 210 manors throughout England and Wales, but notably in Derbyshire[2] and Leicestershire''Domesday Book: A Complete Translation''. London: Penguin, 2003. p. 656-7 744-9 ISBN 0-14-143994-7, by King William for his conspicuous bravery and support at Hastings. He eventually made his home at Tutbury Castle, but is also thought to have been appointed the first Anglo-Norman High Sheriff of Berkshire.
Henry had three sons - Enguenulf, William and Robert - the first two of whom predeceased him. His son, Robert, became the 1st Earl of Derby.
His family tree is well researched and various people are said to be descended from this line.[3]. These include, George the First, Lady Diana, George Washington and Winston Churchill.
