'Henry G. Jarecki' is a legendary figure in the world of metals trading. A graduate of the
University of Heidelberg Medical School, he spent more than a decade practicing psychiatry at
Yale University. Together with Dr. Thomas Detre, he authored a textbook called
Modern Psychiatric Treatment in 1970. He left medicine in 1970 to enter the
bullion business. He rose to a position of great prominence in the international bullion markets during the 1970s and early 1980s as a leading figure at the
Mocatta Group, the world’s largest gold and silver trading company, which he ultimately sold in 1986 to
Standard Chartered Bank. Soon thereafter he formed Brody White, an international commodities brokerage company, which he subsequently sold to
Société Générale in 1995. Jarecki, who was born in Stettin, Germany, served as a director of the
FIA from 1979 to 1985. He was also a director of Commodity Exchange Inc., the
National Futures Association and the
Chicago Board of Trade. Currently he is the chairman of The Falconwood Corporation, an investment banking company with investments in a diverse range of businesses around the world. He also remains active in the world of
psychiatry and is a professor of psychiatry at the
Yale University School of Medicine.
In addition to The Falconwood Corporation, Dr. Jarecki's business interests include Gresham Investment Management LLC, a commodity investment fund manager, and PsychoGenics, Inc., a firm involved in the discovery of psycho-active drugs. From 1994 to 1999 he was the Chairman and, with his family, principal shareholder of MovieFone, a movie showtime and ticketing company that was subsequently purchased by AOL.
Dr. Jarecki is also an active philanthropist, serving on the Board of the
Institute of International Education, a world leader in the international exchange of people and ideas, and as Chairman of its
Scholar Rescue Fund, which brings to safety academics around the world who are at risk of intimidation, violence, and imprisonment. Dr. Jarecki is also on the Boards of the
Classical Theater of Harlem, and the British Virgin Islands' Tourist Board, Youth Empowerment Programme, and Community College.
Dr. Jarecki is also an honorary
British Virgin Islander, and has purchased and owns a number of islands within the Territory.
