1950 novel by
Evelyn Waugh depicting the quest of
St. Helena to find the relics of the cross on which
Christ was crucified. Helen, an Orthodox Christian was the mother of the Orthodox Roman emperor Constantine.
The book is notable for being almost free of the biting
satire upon which Waugh's reputation stands.
