HEGESIAS OF CYRENE

'Hegesias of Cyrene' was a Cyrenaic philosopher.
According to Nuttall, Hegesias ''"held that life was full of evils, that it was in vain to seek after pleasure, and that all a wise man could do was to fortify himself as best he could against pain."''
He is not to be confused with Hegesias or Hegesinus of Salamis, a legendary early poet to whom the epic Cypria was sometimes ascribed.
