'Hawaii County' is a county located in the U.S. state of Hawaii in the Hawaiian Islands. It is with the Island of Hawaii (sometimes called the 'Big Island'). As of 2000 Census the population was 148,677. The county seat is Hilo. There are no incorporated cities in Hawaii County (see Hawaii Counties).
Hawaii County has a mayor-council form of municipal government. Executive authority is vested in the Mayor, elected by the voters on a non-partisan basis to a four-year term. Legislative authority is vested in the nine-member County Council, each of whose members represent a district. Members of the County Council are elected on a non-partisan basis to two-year terms.
The current Mayor of Hawaii County is Harry Kim.

Hawaii County has a total area of 13,174 km² (5,087 mi²); 10,433 km² (4,028 mi²) of it is land and 2,742 km² (1,059 mi²) is water (mostly all off the ocean shoreline but counted in the total area by the U.S. Census Bureau, making these numbers unreliable for most purposes).
