Gunshot sound

A typical rifle gunshot is very loud — in the region of 140 to 170 decibels the threashold for pain is 130 db[1]. This can be lowered to around 115 db through the use of a suppressor and subsonic ammunition.
A 9mm gunshot can be described as having a "Buka" "Buka" sound as described in "Under Pressure" a song by the late Tupac Shakur. This sound is also referenced in the Ali G Show in which "Buka" is described as a sound made when you shoot a gun.
Gunshot as distress signal

Some doctrines of survival training allow for the use of three gunshots with an interval of one or two seconds as a distress signal. .[2]
