'Gary Teale' (born
July 21 1978 in
Glasgow) is a
Scottish footballer, who currently plays for
Derby County as a
winger.
He began his career at
Clydebank in
1996, followed by a three year spell at
Ayr United. It was at
Wigan Athletic, however, that he settled in, picking up a league winners medal for the 2002/03
Second Division, also proving crucial in the 2004/05 season in which Wigan were promoted into the
Premiership. In
2005, he was offered a new two-year contract with the club.
Teale's impressive performances for his club earned him international recognition, he won his first
Scotland cap in a 3-1 defeat to
Switzerland on
1 March 2006. The Wigan Athletic fans' point of view regarding Teale is widely variable, largely due to his likewise variable displays.
On
11 January 2007, Teale moved to
Derby County for £600,000. After showing some promise in his early days at Derby, he has dropped off the pace resulting in him being second choice to Craig Fagan for the latter part of the 2006/07 season.
