A 'garage band' is a group of
amateur pop music,
pop, or
rock musicians. The term can also refer to a band that performs
garage rock, regardless of their professional status.
The term is derived from the phenomenon of startup bands literally playing at home in the
garage. Some people form and join garage bands without any intention of pursuing a music career, but many famous bands started as garage bands. For example,
Metallica has remained proud of their garage roots, and has released albums titled ''
Garage Days Re-Revisited'' and ''
Garage Inc''. Most garage bands feature the most fundamental instruments in rock music,
electric guitars and a
drum kit.
