HRH 'Princess Galyani Vadhana', (born
6 May 1923,
London,
England), is a Princess of
Thailand, the eldest sister of King
Bhumibol Adulyadej (
Rama IX). Her formal name and
title is Somdej Phra Chao Pheenang Ther Chao Fa 'Galyani Vadhana Kromma Luang Narathiwat Rajanagarindra' (loosely translated: Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the
Princess of
Narathiwat).
Biography
During
World War II the princess married
Colonel Aram Rattakun Serireongrit, at the time the Thai military attache in Switzerland. They are the parents of a daughter,
Thanpuying Dhasanawalaya Sornsongkram. They latter divorced and the princess remarried in 1969 to
HH Prince
Varananda Dhavaj, who passed away in 1990.
The princess is heavily involved in projects under her royal patronage. Areas include the traditional
Thai arts,
education,
sports,
social welfare, etc. She is
president and honorary president of various organisations and
foundations, such as the Cardiac Children’s Foundation, the Princess Mother’s Charity Fund, the
Autistic Foundation of Thailand, etc. She has created her own foundation for funding the studies of gifted young musicians.
She is a
patron of various classical music foundations. With her trips, she always gathered important and useful information which are shown in the Royal news, giving knowledge to people. She also writes books, poem, and speaks French.
She also travels widely within Thailand and abroad to represent the royal family and her country on missions.
