SPURFOWL

(Redirected from Galloperdix)

The 'spurfowls' are the three species of bird in the genus ''Galloperdix'' of the pheasant family, Phasianidae.
These are ground nesting birds. 'Red Spurfowl' and 'Painted Spurfowl' occur in dry scrub-jungle in India, whilst 'Sri Lanka Spurfowl' is endemic to forests in Sri Lanka.
Some species, like the 'Yellow-necked Spurfowl', have now been reclassified as Francolins.
