Northern Fur Seals
Anabelle and Dandelion, two of the first northern fur seals of the season, shown being rehabilitated November 2007 at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. Anabelle has the distinction of being the smallest animal The Marine Mammal Center has ever treated on site! Fur seals are known and named for their thick fur, which has 300,000 hairs per square inch. The full range of the northern fur seal extends throughout the Pacific rim from Japan to the Channel Islands of California. Once hunted in large numbers for their pelts, northern fur seals are now protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act as a depleted species. Copyright The Marine Mammal Center. Commercial use prohibited without written permission. About The Marine Mammal Center: Headquartered in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, California, The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary hospital, research and educational center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals - primarily elephant seals, harbor seals and California sea lions - and to the study of their health. Patients that become healthy again are released back to the ocean. Since 1975, the Center has rescued and treated thousands upon thousands of marine mammals and has accumulated a body of knowledge about marine mammal and ocean health from its patients. By educating the public about marine mammals, the Center hopes to foster ocean stewardship and conservation. The Marine Mammal Center is supported almost entirely by private funds. Leave My Coat Alone.
Dog fur is being sold in the U.S. as faux fur on jackets that are not labeled. 1 out of 7 fur products sold in the U. S. do not have a label that tells what one is buying. Half of all finished fur products entering the U.S. come from China, where dogs, cats, and raccoon dogs are being skinned alive for their fur! TAKE ACTION: Ask your U.S. Representative to support and co-sponsor the DOG and CAT FUR PROHIBITION ENFORCEMENT ACT of 2007 by filing out the HSUS's ACTION ALERT petition to YOUR Representative. Click on the HSUS's link and sign on today to stop this unspeakable act of brutality.Click here: Take Action: We Need The Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act of 2007 http://community.hsus.org/campaign/FED_2007_fur_labeling?qp_source=gac4ly 'I am the owner of this coat' by Maria Daines © Maria Daines/Paul Killington www.maria-daines.com
