The world's oldest footwear on record was discovered at Fort Rock Cave in 1938 by Luther Cressman from the University of Oregon.[2][3] The sagebrush bark sandals have been radiocarbon dated to approximately 9,000 - 10,000 years ago.3[4] Several other prehistoric artifacts have been found at Fort Rock Cave, including basketry and stone and rock tools.[5]
