'Finnieston' is a
district in the Western fringe of the city centre of
Glasgow,
Scotland, situated on the North bank of the
River Clyde. It is home to the
SECC, where many concerts and important conferences are held.
Exhibition Centre railway station was previously known as Finnieston station. The area has had a remarkable change in land-use since de-industrialisation. Previously, Finnieston was an area of warehouses and docks. A snapshot of how Finnieston used to look can be seen in the film
Deathwatch (aka "La Mort en Direct"), which used the area extensively in location shots. It now has upmarket housing and office areas with the
Lancefield Quay and
Skypark developments. Finnieston Street is a major junction on the
Clydeside Expressway, and on September 18th, 2006, was augmented with the addition of the
Clyde Arc over the
River Clyde.
