'Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A.' is a
shipbuilding company based out of
Trieste,
Italy.
Fincantieri has developed a long tradition in designing and building ships. Two hundred years of history marked by the construction of over 7,000 ships which, from
Alaska to the
Caribbean, have taken, and continue to take, the image of Italian industry out into the world.
This tradition has always been carried forward by a drive towards enhanced performance and a quest for new solutions in design and construction, also within a framework of strategic partnerships.
Experience and technological resources have enabled the company to conceive highly successful, cutting edge designs, from the
SS Rex and the
Destriero which in
1933 and
1992 respectively won the
Blue Riband, to the construction of some of the world’s most beautiful and famous cruise ships, floating showcases of “''Made in Italy''” which encapsulate the spirit of enterprise, artistic creativity, sophisticated craftsmanship and culture which have always been hallmarks of the company.
Today Fincantieri is one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups. World leader in the construction of cruise ships and large ferries, sectors characterised by high technology and design content the company is also a reference builder in the military field with a full range of product types including surface vessels and submarines. Furthermore, the company is also developing its activities in the business area of mega yachts.
Drawing on is substantial experience as prime contractor and integrator, on its engineering capabilities and capacities and on its integrated network of specialised shipyards, supported by a vast, expert supply chain, Fincantieri sets out to be a partner to ship owners and the defence sector offering innovative, tailor-made products and providing a high service level.
In Italy Fincantieri employs a staff of nearly 9,400 (rising to approximately 20,000 if the supply chain is included) working at 8 shipyards, two design centres, one research centre and two production sites for mechanical components.

Monfalcone, Marghera (
Venice),
Sestri Ponente (
Genoa),
Ancona,
Castellammare di Stabia and
Palermo report to the Merchant Ships Business Unit while the shipyards of
Riva Trigoso (Sestri Levante) and
Muggiano (Lerici) report to the Naval Vessel Business Unit.
