'Everest Base Camp' (also, South Base Camp) is the camp at which most expeditions up the
world's highest mountain start from in
Nepal.
Everest Base Camp is situated at 17,600 feet (5,360 m). Strangely, Everest's summit cannot be seen from Base Camp as the camp's position allows nearby
Nuptse to block the view of Everest. In order to get views of Everest within the vicinity of Base Camp, many trekkers climb
Kala Pattar, a nearby summit that provides some famous views of the highest peak on Earth.
There is also a Base Camp on the north side of Mt. Everest in
Tibet (North Base Camp). It is the place where many climbers can get shelter, food and supplies before climbing Everest.
One path to Everest Base Camp is the Everest Trek.
